WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE?

This 4-day evidence-based, hands-on workshop taught by leaders in the field of female incontinence and pelvic floor rehabilitation is oriented towards physiotherapists with an interest in women’s health.
The 4th day will be in Sept. 2011

Take advantage of this opportunity to expand your scope of practice in providing primary care for women with incontinence, a growing health issue affecting 1 in 3 women

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Understand female pelvic floor anatomy and pathophysiology related to incontinence
  • Acquire skills to perform a functional assessment of the pelvic floor and pelvic organ prolapse
  • Learn to identify the different types of incontinence, prolapse and other pelvic floor dysfunctions in women
  • Acquire the ability to develop and teach an evidence-based treatment plan specific to the patient’s needs
  • Learn when and how to progress pelvic floor muscle training
  • Understand the use of EMG and electrical stimulation of the pelvic floor


Limited to 24 participants

This course includes lab time where participants will practice internal pelvic floor muscle assessments and treatment techniques

  • Male participants will be required to supply a model for practice
  • The course includes an evaluation of both knowledge and practical skills
  • A certificate will be issued upon completion

$600 PABC members
$800 non-PABC member
$300 subsidized participants*

*Agree to attend all 4 days, give at least 1 presentation to the public and 1 to healthcare professionals by Oct 31/11 on physiotherapy for female urinary incontinence. Download subsidy form and submit to Andrea Reid.

Pat and Penny started the Continence Clinic at BC Women’s Health Centre in 1995 and have treated thousands of women with urinary and fecal incontinence.  Together they have many years of experience in the area of women’s health.  They have taught at many workshops and conferences both for healthcare professionals and the public.  They are involved in research and in developing a national certification program for physiotherapists in the area of pelvic floor dysfunction.
